Monet was founded in Seattle in 1994 by original owner Jim Watts. Jim spent the 1980s in Portland, Oregon, painting houses and running paint crews in pursuit of the most efficient method to yield the highest quality paint job. Once in Seattle, Jim began training a new crop of employees, most of whom were students at the University of Washington. That first Spring, as soon as the weather began to warm, Jim walked around local neighborhoods and offered free quotes to anyone in need of a new paint job. This was the beginning of what would be a remarkable self-perpetuating chain of recommendations. Over the next fifteen years, Monet was booked solid as word-of-mouth cemented our reputation for quality and professionalism throughout the greater Seattle area.
Dave Crompton started working for Monet in the summer of 1998, fresh out of high school. Jim trained Dave with the same attention to detail that had distinguished Monet from other painting companies. Dave’s keen eye and perception set him apart, and he quickly advanced through the company. Two summers later, his advancement to crew leader coincided with a new direction for Monet, as carpentry and remodeling were incorporated into our areas of expertise. Upon graduating college in 2004, Dave became a quarter-owner of the company, and by 2010, he owned the business outright. Jim bid Monet a fond farewell and went off to tend bees (no kidding – he raises leafcutter bees).
Dave is excited about the direction he is taking Monet – leading the charge on incorporating new technology into our business and how we manage your projects. He is passionate about making an impact on the way construction is done, even on a small scale, and his team at Monet is just as enthusiastic about being on the cutting edge of the industry.
Everyone in David Crompton's Monet work crew was competent, hardworking, polite, and considerate. He has an excellent crew, and they consistently did excellent work for us during a year-and-a-half remodel.

Dave was born in the United States but grew up in Ghana, the oldest of four. He moved back to the Northwest for his senior year of high school, and attended college at the University of Washington, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Physics. He later went on to get his MBA. Aside from acquiring an almost magical ability to do mental math, the most significant skill he acquired from his education was problem solving. Whether building a house or solving theoretical physics equations, the principles are the same; Dave dives into each problem he encounters by first asking “What do I know right now?” followed by “What do I still need to know?” and finally “Where do I go to find out what I need to know?” Then he starts solving. This process allows Dave to tackle any home improvement project, no matter the size or complexity, from an exterior paint job to an extensive remodel to brand new home construction.
Dave is married to his college sweetheart who finds his mental math abilities as impressive as the rest of us at Monet do. They have three small children – the eldest two are too smart for their own good, and the third little genius is just starting to show signs of abnormally high brain function.
We are a landscape contractor and our experience with Monet has been exceptional. A lot of our projects are site specific and need a lot of detailed understanding. They are patient, ask the right questions and do great work.

At Monet, we provide you with the highest level of craftsmanship and professionalism throughout your project. To accomplish this, we select the highest quality materials for your budget on a timeline that works with your schedule. We take care of the leg-work – making phone calls, locating materials, negotiating prices, monitoring the timeline, scheduling tradesmen, and following up on the progress of your project – all so you don’t have to.
Our project managers do all this on the sidelines by harnessing cutting edge technology and software, tracking every last detail. While carpenters build and tilers tile and plumbers plumb, we are ensuring the success of your project by managing it from beginning to end. The majority of this you will never see, but it will be evident by the smoothness and timeliness of your project.
What we provide:
- Discussions with the project manager to evaluate your needs and preferences
- Competitive pricing of labor from all tradesmen involved in your project
- Accurate bids of all materials
- Managing city and county inspections
- Scheduling of delivery of all materials
- Scheduling of various tasks and tradesmen involved
- Follow-ups by the project manager to track the progress of your project and ensure quality
- Inspection of work upon completion
Dave and his crew are all very professional, kind, and courteous. I have used Monet for several other remodel/repair projects because I especially appreciate that Dave is always available, responsive, and goes above and beyond to make sure everything is done well and in a timely fashion.

Home improvement is a lot like surgery – you show up to the hospital in one piece, and before you know it, you’re in several pieces. For a brief period of time, you actually look and feel worse. Ultimately, though, you depart the hospital better than when you arrived.
Making changes to your home – no matter how small – can be an invasive and sometimes stressful process. At Monet, we do our best to minimize your discomfort and be as inconspicuous as possible. In addition, we believe information is power; the more we can tell you about what to expect, the more enjoyable your experience with us will be.
Take a look through our Projects in Process gallery to get a feel for what to expect during your home’s “surgery”.
Peruse our Before and After gallery to see proof that the momentary discomfort of “surgery” is well worth it for our customers.
Dave and his team did an outstanding job. He worked with us on scheduling and working around our timelines. We would definitely use Monet again, and have recommended them to many of our friends.
